Chief Secretary Mr. Amitabh Jain chaired a high-level meeting, to formulate an action plan, in consonance with the instruction issued by the High Court, to address the issue of animal movement on roads. The meeting was held at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhawan on Monday. During the meeting, extensive discussions were held with officials from various departments to address this issue effectively. The Chief Secretary emphasized the urgency of taking appropriate measures to halt the movement of animals on roads. He instructed the officials of the Public Works Department, National Highways Authority of India, and local bodies to identify accident-prone areas on the basis of past year’s incidences.
The Chief Secretary gathered information about Gaushalas, Gauthans, Kanji House, and other animal shelters from Livestock Development Department officials. He emphasized advising cattle herders to prevent their animals from wandering onto roads. The Law Department officers were also directed to update information on relevant legal provisions. Mr. Sanjay Sharma, representing the Transport Department, shared the report on the ongoing efforts towards achieving cattle-free roads, in accordance with the decisions made during the state-level road safety review meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary.
Secretary of Agriculture and Livestock Development Department, Dr. Kamalpreet Singh, Secretary of Panchayat and Rural Development Department, Mr. Prasanna R., Special Secretary of Urban Administration Department, Dr. Ayyaz Tamboli, Director of Urban Administration and Development Department, Mr. Saransh Mittar, Director of Livestock Development Department Mrs. Chandan Tripathi and various officials of Law Department, Transport Department, Public Works Department, NHAI, Urban Administration Department, Panchayat and Rural Development Departments were present.
