Job of ‘Food Safety Mitra’ is not the same as Central Food Safety Officer’s

Complaint against any person or company spreading misleading information in this regard can be filed with the Controller, Food and Drug Administration

Raipur, 19 June 2023/ The advertisements circulating on social media claming to give appointment as Food Safety Mitra in exchange of money and promising monthly salary are false and misleading. According to the information received from the Office of the Controller, Food and Drug Administration, some private companies are demanding an amount ranging from Rs 20 thousand to Rs one lakh on the pretext of appointing youths as Food Safety Mitras. They are promising these youngsters monthly salary as Food Safety Mitra, while in reality, there is no such provision. It has come to light that unknown companies are advertising Food Safety Mitra as the job of Central Food Safety Officer and their job responsibility is to go to hotel, restaurant, dhaba, and food corner, to inquire, issue food license, audit, etc which is totally false.

State Government’s Food and Drug Administration Department refutes any such advertisement. The department has appealed people to avoid getting lured by such false information and misleading advertisements. Any person or company found giving such inducement should be immediately reported at the Office of the Controller, Food and Drug Administration, Block-1, 4th Floor, Indravati. Officials of Food and Drug Administration Department have informed that Food Safety Mitra is not allowed to check or take any action in case of food license or food registration in any food establishment, nor is he entitled to any salary. Any ‘Food Safety Mitra’ found doing aforementioned acts will be subjected to strict action. The task of ‘Food Safety Mitra’ is to help food traders submit online applications for food license, food registration and annual turnover per their request. ‘Food Safety Mitra’ are entitled to a fixed incentive as provisioned by F.S.S.A.I. (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India), and they are required to submit the bill or receipt of each task they have performed for the food traders.

Officials further informed that the ‘Food Safety Mitra’ is an initiative of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) New Delhi. Under this initiative, graduates can become ‘Food Safety Mitra’ by participating in the online training modules prescribed by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. A specific procedure and criteria have been prescribed for the appointment of Food Safety Mitra.
To become a ‘Food Safety Mitra’, one should go through the following procedure- first of all, the person should register online at the ‘Food Safety Mitra portal’. After registration, the applicant should study the five training modules online. Each module is followed by ten multiple answer questions, out of which six questions require technical knowledge. The next module opens only after the completion of the previous one. Thereafter, an online exam of 100 questions carrying 100 marks will be conducted. To become a ‘Food Safety Mitra’, it is mandatory for the applicant to obtain 75 marks out of 100 in this exam. After passing the online examination, the applicant has to deposit a security deposit of five thousand rupees. Only after having completed this entire process, the applicant will be awarded the ‘Food Safety Mitra’ certificate by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, New Delhi.
