Girl Empowerment Mission 2023 comes to an end at NTPC Korba


Korba 16 june. The four-weeklong Girl Empowerment Mission concluded with a colourful ceremony at NTPC Korba on 15 June 2023 at Ambedkar Bhawan, NTPC Korba Township. Shri Sanjeev Kumar Jha, Hon’ble Collector, Korba graced the event as the Chief Guest in the august presence of Guest of Honour, Shri B. Ramachandra Rao, Business Unit Head, NTPC Korba. Shri Prabhakar Pandey, Commissioner of Municipal Corporation, Korba graced the occasion as the special guest. Shri B. Ramachandra Rao, Business Unit Head, NTPC Korba expressed his gratitude towards the Hon’ble Collector, Korba for sparing her valuable time to address the GEM participants. He expressed the strong commitment of all members of Team Korba towards the welfare of people residing in the vicinity of our project. Lauding the humble efforts of NTPC Korba in shaping the young girls to pursue a brighter future, he encouraged the GEM girls to come forward and work hard to live the future they dream of with patience and hard work. He further urged the parents of the GEM girls to support them achieve their goals. Speaking on the occasion, Shri Sanjeev Kumar Jha, Collector, Korba outlined the efforts of NTPC in the realm of CSR and encouraged continuing to work for the development of women, children, and other underprivileged sections of the society.

He highlighted how the programme not only strives to bring a positive change in the lives of the participating girls but also in their families and the societyat large by developing traits of confidence and self-appreciation among the girls. He accredited the trainers of the program as the “unsung heroes.” Furthermore, Shri Sanjeev Kumar Jha remarked, “NTPC is a brand and a good brand is truly depicted by how happy its followers, employees and people attached to that brand are.” He addressed the audience with the example of the Nobel laureate, Amartya Sen wherein, he quantified proving that investment in social capital helps in the growth of the country. The closing ceremony reflected the monthlong programme wherein the GEM girls displayed their takeaways through various performances including dance, song, yoga, self-defence, art & craft, etc.

Through this initiative, NTPC Korba aims to bring awareness among young girls while creating a room for exploring their talent and creativity. Nevertheless, Maitri Mahila Samiti (MMS) provided care and comfort for the GEM girls throughout the four-week residential journey, ensuring motherly warmth and a boost to their confidence. The event was also attended by Shri Madhu S, GM (O&M), Shri Anoop Kumar Mishra, GM (Project Construction), Shri Amber Kumar, GM (Ash Dyke Management), Shri Prabhat Ram, AGM (HR), Dr Lokesh Mahindra, Chief Medical Officer, Principals of all the schools, members of Maitri Mahila Samiti (MMS), union and association and employees of NTPC Korba. The parents of the GEM girls were also present on the occasion. The top 10 children were honoured with educational kits and 124 girls were honoured with certificates. The Girl Empowerment Mission 2023 of NTPC Korba contributed towards one-month residential summer workshops for about 124 girls of class V, in which interventions were made to make girls self- reliant and self-confident in all spheres of life.
