Election Commissioner instructs the officials to adhere to the model code of conduct

The Chhattisgarh State Election Commission has announced the schedule for general and by-elections of three-tier panchayat and urban bodies. In a virtual meeting conducted via video conferencing, all Returning Officers (ROs) and Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) were trained for their respective roles. The meeting was attended by the Commissioner of Chhattisgarh State Election Commission, Mr.Thakur Ram Singh, and the Secretary Mr.Mohammad Kaiser Abdul Haq. Commissioner Mr.Singh emphasised the importance of conducting the elections with utmost seriousness and instructed the officials to adhere to the model code of conduct in areas where the elections are scheduled. The election process is set to commence as per the released schedule.

A meeting was held to provide training on conducting local elections in a transparent and unbiased manner, as well as to discuss preparations related to voting. Important guidelines were shared regarding the arrangements to be conducted in counting centres. Various forms to be used during the elections were also explained, along with the detailed format and reporting requirements to be submitted to the commission.

It is noteworthy that the authorities have begun accepting the nomination forms as of June 2 for the upcoming local elections, and June 9 will be the deadline for submitting the forms. These elections will be held for 763 vacant positions in urban bodies across nine municipalities in eight districts of the state. Additionally, elections will be held in panchayats in 33 districts for 621 vacant posts through by-elections and 142 vacant posts through general elections. The training session was attended by Deputy Secretary Mr. Deepak Agarwal, Under Secretaries Mr. Alok Srivastava and Pranay Verma, other officers of the State Election Commission, and Returning and Assistant Returning Officers from various districts.
