Raipur : Maheshwari Yadav’s financial condition improves through vegetable farming

Purchased a pair of bulls from the profit obtained by the Badi Vikas Yojana

Raipur, 31 May 2023 . The Badi Vikas Program, one of the constituents of the Suraji Gaon Yojana of the Chhattisgarh Government, is enabling farmers to fulfill their families’ financial needs and earn extra income. Under the Badi Vikas Program, rural farmers in the state have developed 4 lakh Badis at their homes in the last four years. They are growing vegetables and fruit-bearing plants in the Badis, which has empowered them to provide for their families economically.


 Farmer Mr. Maheshwari Ram Yadav, a resident of Durg district’s Potiya village, has improved the financial condition of his family by reaping the benefits of the scheme. He said that he owned cultivable land as per the Badi scheme. He has produced vegetables and planted fruit-bearing trees in his Badi with the help of commercial information and guidance received from the Horticulture Department. He is earning considerable profits from the commercial farming of vegetables. Mr. Yadav started the cultivation of vegetables in his Badi a year ago.

After fulfilling his family’s requirement for vegetables, he sold the extra vegetables in the local market and earned an income of Rs. 45 to 46 thousand. The government is also providing him with manure and seeds from time to time for vegetable farming. He is growing vegetables like ladyfingers, cabbage, and onions in his Badi. He has purchased a pair of bulls to assist him in farming with the help of the income earned by selling vegetables. Mr. Yadav is also growing Napier grass along with vegetables. He is a hardworking farmer who also works as a mason. Mr. Maheshwari Ram Yadav, with his hard work and perseverance, is striving towards self-employment to strengthen the economic condition of his family.
