On the occasion of the 162nd birth anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, Dr. Charandas Mahant, the Speaker of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly, unveiled his statue and laid the foundation stone for the Tagore Vatika and Museum at the district hospital premises in Gaurela today. The program was attended by various public representatives and dignitaries, including the Revenue Minister Shri Jai Singh Agrawal, Korba MP Smt. Jyotsna Mahant, Marwahi MLA Dr. K.K. Dhruv, Pali-Tanakhar MLA Mr. Mohit Keraketta, Sonhat MLA Mr. Gulab Singh Kamro.

During the event, Dr. Mahant addressed the attendees and the community, highlighting the importance of Rabindranath Tagore, a great personality who is deeply connected to the region. In 1902, Tagore had visited the Sanatorium to seek treatment for his wife, Mriduladevi’s tuberculosis. Despite his considerable efforts to ensure her recovery, unfortunately, she did not survive. However, he had developed a strong bond with the area. The unveiling of his statue and the foundation laying of the Tagore Vatika and Museum pay tribute to his significant legacy and contribution to the cultural heritage of Chhattisgarh. Dr. Mahant expressed his belief that Tagore’s spirit will always bless the residents of the region.
Dr. Mahant also emphasized that Rabindranath Tagore was a world-renowned poet, writer, philosopher, and Nobel Prize winner in Indian literature. He was also known as Gurudev and was a visionary who revitalized Indian cultural consciousness through Bengali literature. He is the first Asian to have received the Nobel Prize. Dr. Mahant also shared that Tagore was the one who bestowed the title of “Mahatma” upon Mahatma Gandhi.

As part of the series of events celebrating the centenary year of Bisahu Das Mahant’s birth, a magnificent performance of “Rabindra Sangeet” was presented in honor of the anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. The presentation was given by Dr. Chitranjan Kar, a language expert and musician. Dr. Mahant expressed his gratitude to Dr. Chitranjan Kar and his team for their excellent performance. He also thanked Collector Mrs. Priyanka Rishi Mahobia and SP Mr. Yogesh Patel for fulfilling their promises to organize the events.


Dr. Mahant marked the occasion by inaugurating and inspecting the recently built ‘Hamar Lab’ located on the district hospital premises. On this occasion, several dignitaries were present including Mrs. Archana Porte, member of the State Scheduled Tribes Commission, Mr. Uttam Vasudev, member of the State Youth Commission, Mr. Shahid Raine, member of the State Madrasa Board, district panchayat member Mrs. Hem Kunwar Shyam, Janpad Panchayat Gourela President Ms. Mamta Paikara, Janpad Panchayat Marwahi President Mr. Pratap Singh Maravi, Nagar Panchayat Pendra President Mr. Rakesh Jalan, Nagar Panchayat Gourela President Mrs. Gangotri Rathore, Janpad member Gourela Mr. Asad Siddiqui, and the Sarpanch of Gram Panchayat Semra, Mrs. Gajamati Bhanu, along with many other public representatives, dignitaries, media representatives, district and police officials, and residents of the district.
