CS instructs officials to ensure a regular supply of drinking water during summer
Raipur, 25 April . Chief Secretary Mr. Amitabh Jain reviewed the works related to the Water Resource Department, Public Health Engineering Department and other departments associated with the management of safe and clean water supply on Monday at Mahanadi Bhawan(Mantralaya). He instructed the officials to conduct a special drive for hand pump maintenance and purification of drinking water sources considering the summer season. He said that works related to tube wells like drilling, increasing the height of riser pipes, and repair work need to be executed on priority in villages which are having problems related to surface water.
The Chief Secretary instructed the officials to prepare an action plan for better management of safe drinking water supply and ensure mutual coordination in arranging riser pipes for handpump maintenance, storage of spare parts of handpumps and supply of safe drinking water for the prevention of seasonal diseases. He advised to take support from panchayat and rural development works that are executing at different levels.
He instructed the officials to conduct a special drive for the chlorination of drinking water sources and for cleaning the surroundings. He also instructed the health department’s officials to run health awareness campaigns for fighting against water-borne diseases. He instructed the officials of the Water Resources Department to monitor the reservoirs on regular basis and should ensure the release of water into the ponds if needed. The Public Health Engineering Department and the Urban Administration Department were instructed to identify the villages and wards of the cities having drinking water problems and ensure the necessary preparations needed for the transportation of drinking water as per the requirement.
