SECL organizes Stakeholders’ Consultation on National Coal Logistics Plan

Coal Industry stakeholders discuss National Coal Logistics plan as part of PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan for Multi-modal Connectivity South Eastern Coalfields Ltd. (SECL) today organized a Stakeholders Consultation Workshop on National Coal Logistics Plan. Under guidelines of NITI Aayog and Ministry of Coal, Government of India,Coal India is organizing Stakeholders consultations across India through its various subsidiaries to improve coal dispatch policies under PM Gatishakti master plan. This is the third such program after stakeholders’ consultations by CCL in Ranchi and by MCL in Bhubaneswar.

Shri SK Pal, Director Technical (Operations), SECL presided over as the chief guest in the programme. Other dignitaries in the program included Shri SN Kapri, Director Technical (Planning/Projects), SECL, Shri Salil Jha, Senior Advisor (Railways), Coal India, Shri AK Roy, General Manager (PMD), Coal India, Shri ID Narayan, Regional Director, Regional Institute-V, CMPDI , Dr. Dinesh Kumar Mishra, Deputy Director (Mining), Government of Chhattisgarh.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest Shri SK Pal said that India is a growing economy and coal will continue to be the main source of energy in times to come and will continue to play a major role in generating electricity. As coal production increases, we will have to work on creating a strong infrastructure for coal dispatch.

The objective of the Stakeholder Consultation Program is to engage with key stakeholders and gather insights and suggestions for further improvements in the National Coal Logistics Policy under the PM Gati Shakti Plan. The policy is expected to play a significant role in improving the transport and logistics infrastructure for coal transportation in the country, increasing efficiency, reducing costs and promoting sustainable innovations. The suggestions received in the workshop concluded today will help in making the coal dispatch policy more effective in the future.

In 2021-22, according to estimates, about 415 MT coal was dispatched by rail. Domestic coal production is expected to reach 1.5 billion tonnes by 2030, while coal demand is expected to be between 1.3 and 1.9 billion tonnes. Strong infrastructure to extract coal will play a vital role in meeting the future demand and achieving the goal of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.

In the workshop, various stakeholders from the states of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh presented their views and suggestions on the National Coal Logistics Plan and participated in the discussion to further streamline the coal dispatch policies. In the program, a detailed presentation was given by the representatives of the consultancy firm Deloitte through Power Point regarding the study related to the National Coal Logistics Plan and the future coal dispatch plan.

Mr. K. Rajasekhar, General Manager (Planning/Projects)delivered the vote of thanks and the event was moderated by Dr. Sanish Chandra, Public Relations Officer, SECL. The entire planning and project department had an important contribution in the successful organization of the programme.
