SECL launches “Digital War-room” for Digitization of Coal Mines

Coal India launches “Project DigiCoal”

SECL on Saturday launched “Digital War Room” for digitization of coal mines. CMD Dr. Prem Sagar Mishra inaugurated a “Digital War-room” at SECL Headquarters to monitor and support Coal India’s “Project DigiCol”. The Digicol project will help future-ready mining operations of Coal India and its subsidiaries by using advanced digital solutions.

Coal India Limited (CIL) has launched “Project DigiCol” on Friday for the digitization of coal mines. Shri Pramod Agarwal, Chairman, Coal India Limited launched the project at Coal India Headquarters, Kolkata and inaugurated a “Digital War-room” to monitor and support the project.

With the launch, the Digicol project went live in 7 coal mines of Coal India, including Gevra, Dipka and Kusmunda mines in SECL and Nigahi, Jayant, Dudhichua and Khadia mines in NCL. Coal India has appointed Accenture as consultant to design and implement the project.

“Launch of “PROJECT DIGICOAL” is an important milestone of digitalization in CIL. This project will help make the processes efficient,” Chairman, CIL Shri Pramod Agrawal said while launching the project.

Inaugurating the Digital War-room at SECL, CMD Dr. Prem Sagar Mishra said that in today’s time digitization has become very important for every industry; this digital war room under Coal India’s “Digicoal” project will help us to increase coal production and strengthen the supply chain.

On the launch of Digital War-room in SECL, Director Technical (Operations) Mr. S.K. Pal, Director (Finance) Shri G. Srinivasan, Director Technical (Projects & Planning) Shri S.N. Kapri, Director (Personnel) Shri Debasish Acharyya were present. The program was organized by Mr. K. Rajasekhar, General Manager (Projects & Planning) and his team.

“PROJECT DIGICOAL” will drive efficiency through a portfolio of Industry 4.0 digital solutions such as deploying drones for robust surveying & planning, AI/ML based drill & blast designs for improved fragmentation, IoT based fleet monitoring system to maximise availability and utilization, digitization of land records for land acquisition management, and preventive asset maintenance to minimize process downtime. This project has been designed at the nexus of business & digital, leveraging industry leading practices for improving overall production by impacting key business KPIs.
