Bilaspur : Saur Sujala Yojana has helped in increasing the income of farmers

Savings in electricity, fields are being irrigated by solar pumps

Bilaspur, 13 March .

Mr. Tirath Ram, a farmer of Bilha Block’s Limha Village, is benefitting from the Saur Sujala Yojana of the Chhattisgarh Government and is now immensely happy. He is emerging as an inspiration for other farmers by cultivating crops like chickpeas, wheat, and Masoor besides paddy in his fields using the solar pump provided to him under the scheme. Mr. Tirath Ram said that his fields are irrigated for the whole day through the solar pump obtained from the government. He is now completely free from the worry of electricity bills. Feeling motivated by the continuous supply of water, he is also showing interest in crops like wheat, chickpeas, and Masoor along with paddy.

It is noteworthy that so far 1714 pumps have been installed by CREDA in the district. These include pumps installed in 309 farmers’ fields in the Bilha development block, 475 in Takhatpur, 704 in Masturi, and 226 in Kota. The main objective of the Saur Sujala Yojana conducted by the state government is to provide better irrigation facilities to farmers. The use of solar pumps is helping in conserving groundwater and strengthening the rural economy apart from boosting agricultural production in the state. Solar pump installation has enabled farmers to double their income, and because of this, they are showing more interest in solar pumps. The Saur Sujala Yojana of the Chhattisgarh Government is proving to be quite beneficial for farmers.
