Chief Minister lauds Balod’s cow dung paint production during district visit

Raipur 28 February . In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the collectorate building of Balod is being painted with natural paint made from cow dung. On Monday morning, with a paintbrush in hand, Collector Shri Kuldeep Sharma commenced the painting work of the Collectorate building by painting it himself.

Meanwhile, the state government, following the directions of Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel, has issued instructions to paint all government buildings in the state with natural paint made from cow dung, which is manufactured by women’s groups in state-run Gauthans. The Public Works Department has also included natural paint made from cow dung in its SOR, and departmental officers have been instructed to use this paint for painting government buildings.

Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel has expressed his happiness over the initiative to paint government buildings in the state with natural paint made from cow dung. He stated that this initiative not only promotes innovation in the production of natural paint from cow dung in the state but also provides benefits to women’s self-help groups engaged in this work. Additionally, natural paint is a cheaper and eco-friendly alternative to chemically-made paints and distempers available in the market.

During his stay in the Balod district on February 19, the Chief Minister appreciated the establishment of natural paint manufacturing units and paint-distemper production in the Gauthans of the district. Furthermore, the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj unveiled by the Chief Minister in Parasatrai village of Gundardehi development block was also painted with cow dung paint made in the district.

In accordance with the instructions from the state government, all government offices, buildings, schools, and Anganwadi Centers in the Balod district are being painted with natural paint. The buildings under various departments are being painted by purchasing natural paint and distemper made from cow dung from the natural paint unit established in Adarsh Gauthan Barhi of Balod development block. For the newly constructed buildings, the Public Works Department has purchased natural paint and distemper worth Rs 1.62 lakh.

Dr. D.K. Shivhare, Deputy Director of Veterinary Services, has said that nearly 180 liters of natural paint have been purchased in Gram Panchayat Sorar under the Gurur development block. Additionally, about 28 liters of natural paint have been purchased in Parasatrai Gram Panchayat of Gundardehi development block. Furthermore, other departments are continuously procuring natural paint and distemper for painting their respective offices and buildings. So far, the departments in the district have demanded 25,000 liters of natural paint.

Currently, cow dung-based natural paint in white, yellow, green, and pink colors is being produced in Barhi Gauthan of the Balod development block. Additionally, other colors are also being produced on special order.
