BALCO celebrated 74th Republic Day with commitment to growth and sustainability

KORBA, January 27 : Bharat Aluminium Company (BALCO), India’s iconic aluminium producer, celebrated 74th Republic Day with great verve and fervour. Mr. Pankaj Sharma, Dy. CEO – BALCO, hoisted the National Flag, which was followed by singing of the National Anthem, further imbibing the spirit of patriotism among the employees.

Mr. Sharma addressed the members of BALCO family regarding the vision of growth and excellence of the organization and its contribution towards building a ‘self-reliant’ India. He also reiterated all the important benchmarks achieved by BALCO and urged everyone to be an active participant in the growth journey.

Addressing the audience, Mr. Pankaj Sharma said, “Let’s make a commitment to build a nation that is developed socially, economically and scientifically, and serves as a model for growth worldwide. BALCO’s products are recognized as being of the highest quality globally. We must prepare to meet the anticipated increase in global demand for aluminium, which is expected to double by 2030. At BALCO, our values of Zero Harm, Zero Waste and Zero Discharge guide all our actions and decision making. We have been supplying fly-ash to many cement manufacturers in the vicinity. Fly-ash dispatch via rail is in line with the company’s vision of achieving economies of scale to further its environment sustainability targets.”

BALCO has also been recently conferred with ‘Gold Award’ presented by Arogya World in category of ‘Healthy Workplaces Awards – 2022’. The award is a testimony to BALCO’s best-in-class employee health & wellbeing practices, deeply rooted in a culture of care. BALCO is playing an instrumental role in making healthcare accessible to all through its 75-bed super specialty BALCO Hospital in Balconagar, Korba. Apart from this, BALCO has rolled out a variety of initiatives and programs for better availability of healthcare facilities for its neighboring communities, such as providing doorstep healthcare services through its Mobile Health Unit (MHU) which has benefitted around 15000 residents since its inception. Another such project is the Rural Health Post, which is benefiting around 3000 residents annually by providing them with quality healthcare facilities in their locality. BALCO’s flagship projects like Project Nayi Kiran, Project Arogya, Project Mor Jal Mor Maati, Project Connect, Vedanta Skill School are providing benefits to the community members in the region to a great extent.

The Republic Day celebrations also included a felicitation ceremony for meritorious students from class X and XII belonging to different schools within Balconagar. Toppers from Class X were felicitated with gold medals and a cash prize of INR 10,000, while meritorious students from Class XII were recognized with gold medals and laptops.

The event was attended by senior management, employees, and business partners of BALCO, who participated with great enthusiasm. Monesh Pandey, Head – HR, BALCO wrapped up the event with a note of gratitude.
