KORBA ; 9th September, 2022: Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), India’s iconic aluminium producer and a subsidiary of Vedanta Aluminium, has deployed Artificial Intelligence-based ‘Pulse Data’ to bolster efficiency and reliability of its power plant. The intelligent Power Plant Boiler Reliability System leverages machine learning, advanced pattern recognition, etc. to provide predictive analytics on boiler availability, which helps the company’s power team proactively work towards ensuring plant availability. With integration of such smart automations into its plant operations, BALCO also strives to reduce direct manual intervention and, as a result, improve workforce safety at site.
Speaking about BALCO’s approach to increase technological interventions, Mr. Abhijit Pati, CEO and Director, BALCO, said, “BALCO has been one of the early adopters of smart technologies in its operational set-up, amongst manufacturing companies. Our technological interventions serve to bolster the culture of safety, productivity, efficiency, and excellence that we strive to foster across the organization. These endeavours are helping us create a future-ready organization that caters to the aluminium needs of India’s industries and helps build a self-reliant nation.”
Examples of other digital & technology interventions at BALCO include:
• Safety: An Extended Reality (XR) experience zone has been created to augment safety training for BALCO’s employees and partners. The zone makes use of Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality technologies to enable simulation-based training, thus ensuring an immersive, engaging and safe learning experience for the workforce.
• Sales tracking: Robotic Process Automation (RPA) is being leveraged across various sales & marketing activities such as sales & dispatch tracking, specific stock clarity & allocation, handover tracking etc., thus enhancing business productivity and efficiency.
• Security: BALCO’s highly sophisticated Centralised Security Operations Centre (CSOC) has several cutting-edge security solutions ranging from edge-based security analytics for incident detection and response to effective management of security resources on the ground, besides enablement of intelligence collection.
• Liquid metal transportation: Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags are used to monitor movement of liquid aluminium carrying vehicles inside plant premises through mobile apps.
Testimony to its technology-first approach to manufacturing excellence, BALCO has received numerous coveted awards, including the prestigious ‘Manufacturing Today – Reinventing the Future’ Award. BALCO was also a proud recipient of Special Jury Award in the Technology category at the same event. BALCO has also been declared ‘Platinum Winner’ at the 5th CII National Safety Practices Competition for its ‘Suraksha Sankalp Kutumbh’ project on safety digitalization.
