BILASHPUR,26 APRIL 2025:SECL Strengthens Commitment to Sustainability with Launch of 12 New Electric Vehicles In a significant step towards promoting sustainable and environment-friendly practices, South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) today flagged off 12 new electric vehicles (EVs) at its Headquarters.The vehicles were flagged off by SECL CMD Shri Harish Duhan in the presence of Shri N. Franklin Jayakumar, Director Technical (Operations & Project/Planning) and Shri Himanshu Jain, Chief Vigilance Officer.These EVs, hired for a period of three years, will be deployed at SECL Headquarters as part of the company’s wider energy efficiency and green mobility initiative.

With this addition, SECL’s total electric vehicle fleet has now expanded to 60 vehicles, reinforcing its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint across its operations.The transition to electric vehicles is a crucial measure in SECL’s ongoing efforts to minimize environmental impact. EVs play a pivotal role in cutting down greenhouse gas emissions, improving air quality, and reducing dependency on fossil fuels. Over time, this shift is expected to significantly contribute to the company’s sustainability goals and align with national climate action commitments.

On the occasion, SECL CMD Shri Harish Duhan said, “The introduction of electric vehicles at SECL is an important step towards making our operations greener and more sustainable. As a responsible public sector enterprise, we aim to set a positive example by adopting environment-friendly technologies.”The vehicles have been contracted through the Government of India’s e-marketplace portal (GeM).
