South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) has been conferred with the Platinum Award in the Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) Initiatives category for the Metal & Mining Sector at the 2nd Annual Green Enviro Award & Summit 2026, organised by the GreenEnviro Foundation. The prestigious recognition highlights SECL’s steadfast commitment towards sustainable mining practices, environmental stewardship, and responsible corporate governance.
The awards were presented by Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, Hon’ble Minister of State for New & Renewable Energy, Government of India, in the presence of distinguished dignitaries and industry stakeholders.
In addition to the organisational honour, Shri Ramesh Chandra Mohapatra, Director Technical (Project & Planning), SECL, was honoured with the “Pioneer in ESG Implementation” Award under the Individual Category – Mining Operations, in recognition of his exemplary leadership and significant contributions towards embedding ESG principles into SECL’s mining and project planning framework.
SECL’s ESG excellence is reflected through a comprehensive range of environment-focused initiatives. The company has undertaken large-scale plantation of over 30 million saplings across its operational areas, complemented by Miyawaki plantations aimed at rapid biodiversity restoration. SECL has also implemented scientific mine closure and ecological restoration projects, transforming exhausted mines into sustainable green landscapes and community assets.
Further strengthening its sustainability footprint, SECL has promoted effective mine water utilisation by repurposing treated mine water for irrigation, industrial use, and the development of eco-parks and green recreational spaces. In alignment with India’s clean energy transition, SECL has expanded solar energy projects, adopted energy-efficient technologies, and optimised operational processes to minimise environmental impact.
The awards on behalf of SECL were accepted by Shri Praveen Kumar, General Manager (Mining) & Technical Secretary to Director (Technical – Project & Planning), and Shri Amit Verma, Deputy Manager (Environment), SECL Headquarters.
