Bilaspur, July 21: South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) on Tuesday planted 15,000 saplings in a single day over 1.5 hectares of land behind the New Commissioner Office at Koni, Bilaspur, as part of Coal India Limited’s nationwide plantation campaign aimed at creating a Guinness World Records benchmark for the highest number of trees planted in a day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plantation was carried out using the Miyawaki afforestation technique, marking SECL’s first Miyawaki forest development initiative in Bilaspur city. The dense urban forest is expected to strengthen biodiversity, expand green cover and improve the local environment over the coming years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The programme was attended by SECL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Harish Duhan, Bilaspur Divisional Commissioner Sunil Kumar Jain, Director (HR) Biranchi Das, Director (Finance) D. Sunil Kumar, Chief Vigilance Officer Himanshu Jain, Director (Technical\/P&P) Ramesh Chandra Mohapatra, Coal India Executive Director K. Rajashekhar, General Manager (Environment) Sanjay Sinha, besides Heads of Departments and senior officials. The dignitaries participated in the plantation drive and stressed the need for environmental conservation and community participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressing the gathering, CMD Harish Duhan said environmental protection is a collective responsibility towards future generations. He said forests developed through the Miyawaki method would not only enhance green cover but also contribute significantly to biodiversity conservation, ecological balance and climate change mitigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of Coal India’s nationwide initiative, plantation drives were organised across all subsidiary companies. SECL alone is planting more than 3.20 lakh saplings across its operational areas in a single day under the campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative, besides supporting Coal India’s attempt to set a Guinness World Records benchmark, underlines SECL’s continued commitment to sustainable mining practices, environmental stewardship and the creation of a greener and more resilient future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
