The project focuses on water management, modern agricultural practices, livestock development, non-timber forest produce, and strengthening Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs). As part of these efforts, groundnut cultivation has been promoted as a viable and income-generating option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier, only a handful of farmers cultivated groundnuts, primarily for household consumption. Traditional farming methods, coupled with high input costs and low productivity, limited profitability. In addition, lack of market access posed a major challenge. BALCO has addressed these issues by providing quality seeds, fertilizers, and technical guidance. Farmers are now being trained in line sowing, seed treatment, and balanced fertilizer application, resulting in improved yields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The impact of these community development efforts is evident. From fewer than 50 farmers earlier, nearly 1,000 farmers have now adopted groundnut cultivation. Productivity has increased to 8\u201310 quintals per acre, enabling farmers to earn an additional income ranging between \u20b945,000 and \u20b955,000 per acre. In 2026 alone, more than 470 families have directly benefited, while nearly 200 additional families have started adopting the practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sunita Rathia, a resident of Bhatgaon, shared that she previously depended solely on paddy cultivation, which required substantial water and investment but yielded limited returns. After joining the project, she gained knowledge about improved groundnut farming techniques and received better quality inputs. \u201cGroundnut cultivation requires less water and offers good market value. My income has increased, and I plan to expand its cultivation,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Similarly, Kanhaiya Lal from Bundeli village reported a notable improvement in productivity after adopting modern agricultural practices under the project. His groundnut yield has reached 8 quintals per acre, strengthening his family\u2019s financial condition. He now plans to adopt micro-irrigation and advanced techniques, setting an example for other farmers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond income enhancement, the shift to groundnut cultivation is also improving soil health and contributing to better yields for subsequent crops, while ensuring water conservation.
