The decision follows amendments made by Coal India Limited (CIL) in its uniform dress code scheme.

According to the official order issued by SECL Headquarters, the revised dress code will be implemented across all subsidiaries of Coal India Limited in compliance with directions issued by the parent company. Regional General Managers, Heads of Departments and other concerned officials have been instructed to ensure that employees working in their respective areas, units and departments are informed about the new guidelines and that the dress code is strictly followed from the scheduled date.

The management has also directed officials to make subordinate employees aware of the revised system well in advance so that smooth implementation can be ensured in offices and work places.

Sources said the amendments were approved by the Board of Directors of Coal India Limited during its 490th meeting. Following the approval, CIL issued revised guidelines, after which SECL management implemented the instructions at the company level.

Under the revised scheme, there will be no change in the annual uniform advance amount provided to employees. As earlier, employees will continue to receive an advance of Rs 12,500 annually. However, they will now have the flexibility to purchase three or more uniforms according to their convenience from the sanctioned amount.

The revised policy has also provided relaxation in submission of bills. Earlier, employees were required to purchase uniforms and submit GST bills within one month of receiving the advance amount. The time limit has now been extended to two months, providing additional time for procurement and documentation.

In another significant change, the earlier provision under which employees having less than six months of service remaining were entitled to only 50 per cent of the uniform amount has been withdrawn. Under the new system, all employees will be eligible for the full benefit irrespective of their remaining service period. However, separate provisions have reportedly been incorporated for employees nearing retirement.

As per the revised dress code, male employees will be required to wear grey shirts with black trousers. Female employees will continue to have two options. They may either wear grey or maroon formal shirts with black trousers or opt for a grey-maroon kurta/kameez with black salwar and dupatta set. Women employees will also be allowed to use a combination of the approved options as per requirement.

SECL management stated that the revised dress code is aimed at bringing greater uniformity at workplaces and strengthening professionalism among employees.

Korba, May 8: South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) has issued orders for implementation of a revised dress code for its employees with effect from June 1, 2026.
