Korba: In a bid to raise awareness about health and hygiene among students, New Era Progressive School hosted a free dental and eye check-up camp on Friday. The event was organised in collaboration with Dr. Sanjay Agarwal and Mr Nitin Gupta.
A team of experienced dentists and ophthalmologists examined the pupils of the school. Over 500 students availed themselves of the camp’s services, which included dental screening (covering tooth-cleaning, gum-health and detection of cavities) as well as eye tests (covering vision screening, eye-sight and other eye-related concerns).
The dental professionals advised the students to brush twice daily, maintain a balanced diet, limit intake of sugary foods and seek regular dental care. Simultaneously, the eye specialists recommended reducing mobile and screen time, ensuring adequate sleep and having routine eye-checkups.
School Principal Ms D. S. Rao emphasised that “health is the foundation of education. A sound body supports a sound mind. Therefore, we will continue to organise such health camps periodically to ensure our students develop physically and mentally.”
Chairman Mr Kishore Kumar Sahu expressed his gratitude to the medical team and affirmed that the school management intends to hold further health programmes in future so as to keep students in optimal physical and mental well-being.
Also present at the camp were Director Mr Dilip Sahu, Vice-Principal Mrs Kirti Herit, and Headmaster Mr Jagjit Singh, who jointly inspected the arrangements and encouraged students to remain vigilant about their health and hygiene.

Students responded enthusiastically to the camp: many underwent their first eye test, learned proper brushing techniques, and received guidance on self-care. The school also indicated that students found to have serious dental or eye issues during the screening would be referred to specialist clinics for further treatment.
Teachers and parents too showed keen interest in the initiative and pledged to ensure that regular health check-ups become a fixed part of the school year. The camp is being lauded as a commendable step by the school authorities in promoting not just academic development, but holistic growth — by fostering habits of cleanliness, self-care and a healthy lifestyle from an early age.
