Korba, August 29, 2025: DAV Mukhyamantri Public School, Kharmora, celebrated National Sports Day with great enthusiasm, commemorating the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand. The day was marked by a series of spirited sports events, promoting physical fitness and sportsmanship among students.
The day’s events began with a special assembly, where students delivered speeches highlighting the significance of National Sports Day and the inspiring life of Major Dhyan Chand. The school premises were filled with a competitive spirit as students participated in various games.

A thrilling tennis ball cricket match was held for the boys, pitting the Class 12th team against a combined team from Classes 7th to 11th. The younger students from Classes 7th to 11th emerged victorious in a hard-fought contest, showcasing their impressive teamwork and skill.
For the girls, a dynamic game of Kho-Kho was organized between the students of Classes 7th to 11th and Class 12th. The senior team from Class 12th demonstrated excellent strategy and coordination, securing a well-deserved win.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Hemanto Mukherjee emphasized the role of sports in a student’s life. “Sports are not just about winning or losing; they are about building character, discipline, and a sense of teamwork,” Mr. Mukherjee stated. “Celebrating National Sports Day in honor of Major Dhyan Chand allows us to instill these values in our students and encourage them to lead a healthy and active life.”
