Vineet Chauhan, Bilaspur, 13 April 2025: Mark Hospital, located in Sarkanda, Bilaspur, has been granted recognition by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) to conduct the DNB (Diplomate of National Board) – Urology course. After AIIMS Raipur, it is the first hospital in Chhattisgarh and the third in Central India to receive this prestigious accreditation. This is not just an achievement, but a declaration of Chhattisgarh’s growing prominence in the field of medical education at a national level.
The DNB Urology course is a three-year super-specialty program that can be pursued after completing post-graduation (MS). Through this course, students are trained to become Urology specialists.
On this occasion, Dr. Kamlesh Maurya, Director and Senior Urologist of Mark Hospital, said:
“For years, we have been offering treatment. Now, we will also train the doctors of the future. It has been our dream to make Chhattisgarh a leading center for both medical education and treatment.”
Dr. Maurya described this recognition as a significant opportunity for the youth of Chhattisgarh, who will no longer need to migrate to metropolitan cities for pursuing super-specialty courses. Now, even a challenging and highly esteemed course like DNB Urology can be undertaken right here in Bilaspur.
Mark Hospital has already been a pioneer in the fields of urology and surgery. It is equipped with state-of-the-art operation theaters and modern technology, including advanced laser and Holmium laser systems, enabling minimally invasive or even scarless surgeries. These are the very facilities for which patients earlier had to travel to bigger cities.
The hospital began its journey as a 30-bed facility and has now grown into a multi-specialty hospital with more than 100 beds. Mark Hospital has also been authorized by the Organ Transplant Society to conduct kidney transplants, which will be a crucial service for patients from Bilaspur and the entire state of Chhattisgarh. It also houses a large dialysis center, proving to be a boon for kidney patients.
In addition to healthcare, Mark Hospital has consistently contributed to medical education. It has been granted permission by the Urology Society of India to offer a one-year fellowship program for students who have completed their MCh (Urology). The hospital already has NBE accreditation in the department of Anesthesiology, where several students are currently undergoing training. Furthermore, a nursing college with an intake capacity of 50 seats has also been established within the hospital premises.
