Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi to dedicate NTPC’s Unit#01 (660 MW) of North Karanpura Super Thermal Power Project to the Nation

New Delhi, 29th February 2024 : Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate the 660 MW Unit-1 of North Karanpura Super Thermal Power Project (NKSTPP) of NTPC which has been established with an investment of Rs 7526 crore to the nation on 1st March 2024.

Located in in Chatra district of Jharkhand, the total envisaged capacity of the NKSTPP is 1980 MW (consisting of 3 units of 660 MW each).

This is country’s first Supercritical Thermal Power Project conceived with Air Cooled Condenser (ACC) of such large magnitude which reduces water consumption to 1/3rd in comparison to conventional Water-Cooled Condensers.

This pit-head project will supply majority of the power generated to Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha and West Bengal, thereby ensuring 24×7 availability of quality power at an affordable cost for eastern part of the country.

The commencement of work in this project was flagged off by Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi and now the Unit#01 of this project is Dedicated to the Nation on 01.03.2024.

While the project is creating direct and indirect employment opportunities in the region, various Community Development initiatives are being taken up by NTPC in areas, such as Education, Drinking water, Sanitation, Health and Women Empowerment etc.

The project has further improved the availability of physical infrastructure (like approach roads, drainage, communication, transportation facilities etc.) and social infrastructure (like education and health care system) in the nearby areas.
